About the project
The brief was a memorial park, and the strongest thing on the site was the forest already growing there. So the design keeps it. Existing trees and rock outcrops are held, and the built elements are threaded between them.
A stepped amphitheatre sits at the centre of the plan around a fountain, reached by a stone stair on the main axis. A timber viewing tower marks the high point. Paths are graded to stay walkable for older visitors, and the pavilions are placed where the ground already offered a view rather than where a symmetrical plan would have put them.
